Going Deeper With God - Election Anxiety

Thomas Graffeo |

As the summer draws to a close and our presidential election nears, we all seek to take our next step in … Going Deeper with God. This election stirs deep emotion and anxiety in us.  We are asking: Who will be elected?  What does this mean for our country? Some say this is “the most important election in our lifetime,” as each one has been called for as long as I can remember.

As followers of Christ, focused on pursuing God, where should our thoughts and actions lead us? Firstly, Scripture reminds us that every earthly kingdom is temporary, but His Kingdom endures forever. We can find solace in the knowledge that our ultimate hope lies beyond this world and that God’s Kingdom remains unshaken (Hebrews 12:28-29). Secondly, amidst election rhetoric marked by anger and division, we are called to respond with love, to listen openly, and to show respect for one another. Thirdly, we can seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit as our teacher and advocate, present in the world and within us. The Spirit empowers us to love and serve others and provides us with wisdom for daily living. Lastly, let us pray fervently for our country and this election, asking for His love to be evident in all our interactions.
